Farley Open Recipients

The Farley Open Committee is proud to announce the 2025 fundraising beneficiary: the family of Savanna “Savvy” Dempsey.

Savanna Faith Dempsey, affectionately known as Savvy, is a bright, resilient 4-year-old girl with a twin sister, Sedona. Daughters of Thomas (Cardinal Dougherty) and Jenalyn (Archbishop Ryan), the family lives in Dresher, PA, and is originally from the Lawncrest area in Philadelphia. Savvy and Sedona were born prematurely on January 31, 2021, at just 31 weeks and 3 days at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. This was during COVID, and they were also across the country away from their families and support networks.

From the very beginning, Savvy’s journey has been one of incredible courage. Before birth, she suffered two brain bleeds and underwent multiple surgeries as an infant, including the placement of a shunt to relieve pressure on her brain. These early challenges resulted in a significant brain injury and a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, which limits her mobility. The family relocated back to the Philadelphia area to be closer to CHOP and their families.

Savvy also faces cerebral visual impairment (CVI) — a neurological condition that affects how her brain processes visual information — as well as focal epilepsy, which causes seizures that impact one side of her brain. She has had three major seizures leading to ER visits which have caused trauma for the entire family. She has also battled a serious digestive disorder that prevented her from eating solid food for over two years. While she’s beginning to learn how to eat some typical foods, it’s been a long and difficult road.

In addition to constant therapy, Savvy needs a specialized walker and wheelchair to help her move, and she attends weekly, high-cost therapy sessions to build strength and mobility. Due to the intensive care Savvy requires, her mom Jenalyn has not been able to return to work. The family relies solely on Tom’s income to cover the expenses of ongoing therapies, equipment, and daily care needs.

Despite the many obstacles she faces, Savvy’s spirit is radiant. She brings joy and light to everyone around her—especially her twin sister, Sedona, who is her constant cheerleader and best friend.

The Farley Open family has always come together to support children and families facing tremendous medical and financial challenges. We hope you’ll join us once again in rallying around this incredible little girl and her devoted family.
